You've had your consult, came in to have the hair installed, received a beautiful style and now you're leaving thinking "how do I take care of these things??"
At Level Eleven, we give out a detailed aftercare card that outlines do's and dont's for your extensions. Otherwise, we are always just a DM away for any concerns.
The long and the short of it is; after a few washes, you will quickly get so used to them and feel like it is your own hair. You'll know where the beads are and how to brush to limit tangling and slippage and all of the things!
Here is all you need to know:
Do not wash your hair for at least 24 hours after the initial application. This will allow the bonds to set and avoid any extensions from slipping out.
Most first-time extension wearers may feel a little irritation as they get used to the extra weight, but this should subside within a day. If you feel discomfort at any time - message Level Eleven and we can easily readjust those pieces. These rarely hurt at all!
Wash your hair 2-3 times a week max. Over washing will leave your hair looking dry, as well as creating greater risk for slippage. Dry shampoo or doing a quick wash in the sink of your natural hair on top is the way to go between washes!
Brush in the morning, before bed and before washing to ensure there are no natural occurring tangles. Using the DannyCo extension brush is highly recommended (can be purchased in salon).
Always use a sulfate free shampoo and conditioner. Sulfates strip the hair of its natural oils which can leave the hair looking dry and unhealthy. Matrix Length Goals is recommended as it’s made for extensions but if you have a favourite - bring it in with you to your next appointment and we can double check it’s not going to do any harm to the extensions!
Apply conditioner to mids and ends only. Conditioning near the roots will result in the bonds slipping and creating a greasier scalp!
Make sure hair is 100% dry before bed. Never go to sleep with your hair wet to avoid matting.
For long lasting hair extensions, moisturize and protect your hair with a leave-in conditioner or heat protectant. Matrix Length Goals does both and is what we use in salon and it works on damp or dry hair!
Sleep with your hair in a low braid or low ponytail to keep all hair flowing in the same direction. This will avoid tangling and the cuticles from rubbing together.
AVOID HEAT AT BONDS. The nanolink uses an all-natural keratin to fuse the strands together. Blow drying too closely or hitting it with a hot tool could result in melting and then fusing again quickly to your natural hair.
Peace, love, and hair,
Sarah
